The Bluetooth Mesh radio standard in buildings

LOYTEC Showcases Open Building Automation with Bluetooth Mesh

LOYTEC Electronics demonstrated at the ISH trade fair in Frankfurt how building automation can become simple, secure, and scalable. The focus was on the Bluetooth® SIG Mesh wireless protocol. This open and standardized solution enables the retrofitting and modernization of buildings without being tied to a specific vendor. Extensive interoperability is further ensured through LOYTEC’s collaboration with other manufacturers such as JUNG, HÄFELE and STEINEL within the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Bluetooth Mesh.

The Working Group was formed in 2023 as a collaboration of several manufacturers. Its members work together to create building technology solutions that are compatible with each other. After all, standardized wireless technology alone is not always enough to ensure interoperability – sometimes control systems must also be adapted to fully utilize all functions of a sensor or actuator.

JUNG Switches and Outlets Integrated into LOYTEC’s Bluetooth System

One result of this cooperation was on display in Frankfurt: switches and outlets from the JUNG HOME Bluetooth system expand the LOYTEC ecosystem. This enables LOYTEC components such as the LOYBT-SBM1 shutter module to be controlled not only via wall switches –  for instance, the LOYTEC LPAD-7 touch panel can also control JUNG outlets, allowing users to operate a freestanding table or floor lamp (see image).

In addition, there are numerous compatible luminaires and LED drivers that also use Bluetooth® SIG Mesh. These include products from HÄFELE, another member of the working group, as well as from Delta Electronics, Sunricher, Sylvania and MoltoLuce. Existing systems such as DALI luminaires can be upgraded and reused with bridges. This means lower investment costs, rapid implementation and no need to replace the entire infrastructure at once.

Frankfurt has shown that the industry is clearly moving in the direction of the open, cross-manufacturer wireless standard. The future of building automation is Bluetooth® SIG Mesh.
