The Bluetooth Mesh radio standard in buildings

The smart home upgrade for any electrical installation

Home control with Bluetooth® Mesh: JUNG HOME makes networking easier than ever for professional installers. The new system smartifies every building – without a server, without the Internet and without the need for a hammer drill.

Yet another system for building automation? The question seems justified. After all, there are mature solutions to choose from. However, they are rarely used on a broad scale. In some cases, the technology is too complex and the planning too extensive for smart projects to become part of the daily routine of electricians and specialist companies. 90 percent of installations are still conventional.

That’s why JUNG is taking a new approach to the topic of digitalization in buildings – with a system that is consistently tailored to the needs of the trade. JUNG HOME is based on known and learned technology. It is planned, wired and installed like a conventional 230-volt electrical installation, without devices in the sub-distribution or special lines.

This means that almost every home – whether existing or new – meets the requirements for a digital infrastructure. The specialist trade can offer solutions that save energy and heating costs, increase living comfort and contribute to climate protection without much effort. JUNG HOME makes it easy to meet the growing customer wishes and requirements for building technology.

From 230 volts to Smart in 5 minutes: JUNG HOME is based on the conventional 230-volt installation and is installed as usual.

Wireless networking with Bluetooth® Mesh

There are no bus lines in JUNG HOME. To simplify installation, the devices exchange information wirelessly. The Bluetooth® Mesh SIG radio standard is used, an extension of the Bluetooth protocol that has proven itself millions of times over. It is the only Bluetooth variant in building technology to be standardized by the official Bluetooth® Special Interest Group (SIG) – a prerequisite for smooth, cross-manufacturer operation.

The mesh principle ensures area-wide radio coverage: Devices such as pushbuttons and sockets that are connected to the mains act simultaneously as transmitters and receivers. They amplify incoming signals and pass on commands. Because their radio waves interlock like the mesh of a fabric, the stability of the network increases with each new node. And commands jump from one device to the next until they reach their destination, even if that destination is at the other end of the building.

Thanks to automatic encryption and maintenance-free, self-organizing radio technology, the effort required is reduced to a minimum. Even wireless software updates of the devices during operation are possible at any time via the mesh network. The installation of JUNG HOME can start with a socket or a pushbutton and can be extended as required – from room to room or floor by floor.

Ingeniously simple: the smart socket

The JUNG HOME SCHUKO® socket replaces conventional socket inserts and makes the power connection immediately switchable – via buttons, the app and on the socket itself. A multicolored backlit operating button simultaneously indicates the operating status. The internal memory for up to 16 freely programmable time programs with astro function and automatic summer/winter time changeover automates everyday life. And if it should be a little smarter: The JUNG HOME SCHUKO® socket Energy additionally measures power consumption – providing intelligent energy management, for example in the form of an automatic standby switch-off.

Immediately after the smart sockets and other devices from JUNG HOME are installed, they can be set up and operated via the system’s app.

Under the plaster: system inserts and actuators

Whether pushbutton dimmer, switching or shutter insert: The flush-mounted range covers all common areas of application. A DALI push-button control unit additionally operates lights with the standardized light interface, the room thermostat insert controls actuators in the heating circuit distributor or the electric floor heating. Via the JUNG HOME switch actuator with binary inputs, among other things, external sensors can be connected and loads of up to 16 amps can be switched. For example, a conventional weather station can be connected to the system and can control the awning in wind and rain.

Well on top: Attachments for controlling and operating

System inserts determine the function, the attachment from JUNG HOME controls the load. As required, these can be 1- and 2-gang pushbuttons or an operating display for the room temperature. JUNG also offers motion detectors for mounting on the inserts and a presence detector. Each combination is immediately ready for operation after the cover is plugged on. The attachment contains the radio technology and can be conveniently enrolled via the JUNG HOME app on the smartphone, assigned to rooms and integrated into scenes.

Totally detached: wireless pushbuttons with battery operation

Not always, where operating points are desired, a device socket is located as well. In such cases, the JUNG HOME pushbutton with battery supply comes into play. Thanks to the adhesive pad, it can be freely positioned and adheres to all smooth surfaces, from wall tiles to bathroom mirrors and kitchen cabinets. Alternatively, it can also supplement existing control points in the multiple frame of the switch range without requiring an additional installation box – maximum functionality with minimum installation effort.

Everything under control: the JUNG HOME app

The heart of the system: The JUNG HOME app for Android and iOS is a free download in the Google and Apple app stores. Installers use it to set up the smart home in just three steps: They activate the pairing mode on the product at the touch of a button and let the app search for new Bluetooth devices. The program then helps configure the devices, rooms and scenes. On the screen, the installer assigns the buttons their tasks. In the end, all he has to do is transfer the project wirelessly to his customers’ smartphones, that’s it.

Instead of thinking smart home complicated, it is better to simply make it smart. 90 percent of installations in new buildings and renovations are carried out conventionally. JUNG HOME provides the digital infrastructure for them.

Voice control and more: the JUNG HOME Gateway

To connect the encrypted, local radio network of JUNG HOME with the outside world, the JUNG HOME Gateway is available. It is certified by the VDE Institute and has received the seal “Smart Home – Information Security Tested”. The gateway establishes contact between the Bluetooth Mesh on site and the secure JUNG Cloud. Cloud-based internet services such as Amazon Alexa or Google Home can thus communicate with JUNG HOME devices. From 2023, a connection with Samsung SmartThings will also be possible. Integration into the WORKS WITH mediola® manufacturer network also enables users to link a wide range of IoT-capable products to their home and control them via JUNG HOME pushbuttons, for example.
